Helsinki

Finland

Clean design, quiet mornings, and the gateway to the Baltics.

Helsinki is a city you can genuinely explore in one day, but it rewards you for staying longer. The cathedral, the harbor market, the design district — it's all walkable and all distinctly Finnish. I used Helsinki as a gateway to Tallinn via the ferry, and the contrast between the two cities is fascinating.

Observations
01

Helsinki is genuinely walkable. You can see the major sights in a day, but the cafe culture will make you want to stay.

02

The ferry to Tallinn is one of the best day trips in Europe. The ships are massive and comfortable.

03

Finnish design is everywhere — even the public spaces feel intentionally crafted.
