What an affiliate link is

Some links to accommodation, tours, clothing and gear are affiliate links. If you book or buy through one, this site may earn a commission. It never changes the price you pay.

How they are marked

Every affiliate link on this site opens in a new tab and carries a sponsored attribute, which is the machine-readable way of declaring the commercial relationship. Where a stay log or gear note contains one, it is stated on the page as well.

The rules

• Nothing is recommended that has not actually been used, stayed in, or worn.
• A commission never buys a positive review. The pros and cons are what they are.
• Destinations are never sponsored. Where a trip was paid for by someone else, it is said so on the page.
• Nothing is listed because it pays. The commission follows the recommendation, never the other way round.
