Sofia
Sofia is one of the cheapest capitals in Europe and it shows in the best way — you can eat well, drink well, and stay somewhere decent without watching your budget constantly. The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is genuinely impressive. The city has a young, creative energy that's growing. Good base for day trips into the mountains.
