Tampere
Tampere is Finland's second city and it has a warmth that Finns aren't always given credit for. Built between two lakes, the city has a clean industrial character — old factory buildings converted into restaurants, galleries, and market halls. More relaxed than Helsinki, easier to get a feel for everyday Finnish life. Worth a couple of days on the way north.
